Setting up websites and web applications on a server takes considerable time. Likewise, moving those websites to a different server also takes a good amount of time. When a web hosting platform needs to modify the hosting plan that you are subscribed to, it is only appropriate for them to provide enough advanced notice so that you can evaluate options and move to a different server if needed.
I did not receive that respect from 1&1 hosting. Apparently they increased their prices for the plan that I was on, and didn't tell me. Only when I looked over the invoice for the next 6 months did I notice that they had risen the price. An email to their billing department resulted in them saying, "The charges are correct."
For this reason, that they didn't give me any notice before raising prices, I can no longer recommend anyone use 1&1 hosting.
